Nares : Moves Catalogue
Nares: Moves is the first retrospective on the contemporary New York-based artist James Nares (b. 1953) and reveals a significant career bringing motion into the spotlight. In addition to being the first retrospective for Nares, it is also the first to explore in depth the artist’s films as central to his artistic practice. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue celebrate the key projects of this prolific, perpetual inventor and establish Nares as an important contemporary artist.
Highlights
Cover: The hardcover catalogue is linen-bound, printed with a combination of blind deboss and white foil that wraps the cover edges. The book Nares: Moves must be flipped over for the user to fully read the title, ensuring the reader is an immediate explorer of the exhibition thesis—motion.
Interior: Built on a strong grid, the style and density of the layouts subtly shift to better accommodate the mood of each section of the exhibition—from scientific exploration to formal gallery to artist studio. Images are presented with spot varnish throughout. Following the flip of the back cover, appendix information and the exhibition checklist are presented upside down in the back section of the book.
